Fluxless method. For manganese-rich ores with high manganese oxide content, high-carbon ferromanganese can be smelted using a flux-free method. Lime is not added to the charge during smelting. The equipment and operation are similar to ferrosilicon, and acidic slag is used under conditions of insufficient reducing agent. The furnace temperature is about 1320~1400 degree lower than the flux method.
Using this method to produce not only qualified high carbon ferromanganese, but also low phosphorus, low iron and manganese-rich slag containing more than 35% manganese for smelting manganese alloys. . At this time, the distribution of manganese is as follows: the alloying rate is 58% to 60%, the slag rate is 30% to 32%, and the volatilization rate is 10%. Obviously, the flux-free method for smelting high-carbon ferromanganese must use manganese-rich ore with high manganese content, and requires a relatively low phosphorus content in the ore.
Although the manganese recovery rate of this method is low, most of the manganese can be recovered when smelting manganese alloys with manganese-rich slag, and the total manganese recovery rate is higher than that of flux. The process of smelting high carbon ferromanganese by the solvent-free method is continuous. The charge is continuously added into the furnace along with the melting process. The batch can be composed of 300kg manganese ore, 60~70kg coke, and 15~20kg steel scraps. When smelting high-carbon ferromanganese without solvent, the unit power consumption of the product is very low, and it is easy to produce high-carbon ferromanganese with low silicon. This is because most of the silicon is enriched in the slag.
